Not sure if you have ever tried to put an event together but it was a ton of work, lead mostly by our President, Cheryl Sutton. However, there were a lot of helpers and donations that helped get this Beach Bash off the ground and it could not have been done without their help.
Most notably, Laura O'Brien, who along with her husband Casey, donated their patio bar area, their time, their employees' help, not to mention their donations and love and effort. The Beach Bash was a major success because of them!
But we also had a tremendous amount of donations in the form of gift to raffle and to put up in silent auction. Local radio stations like WDRV (The Drive) and WERV (The River) as well as the local newspaper, donated air time and gifts. In addition, we had great music throughout the event donated by Coco and the Nuts (a Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffet tribute band). We also had a tremendous amount of effort and support from our many friends and family too numerous to mention by name, but in our hearts and minds for the amount of work and donations given by each of them!
Photos of the event can be found here.
If you missed it, you missed a great time and a great opportunity to donate to our worthy cause. We will be putting together more fundraisers in the near future (already we have at least two folks that have offered their restaurants as potential spots), and just so that you can stay with the "in" crowd, like me, drop me a note and I will put in into our email mailing list: robert.palacios@jpx3.org.
On a totally separate note (well maybe not too separate), today was the 39th anniversary of our first landing on the moon. I remember how proud I was, even then at only 8, of being an American.
I feel like Neil Armstrong's quote applies to our little non-profit as well, as we officially launched the Joshua Project:
"That's one small step for man..."
